Every Tuesday morning someone will ask me about Monday nights episode of American Pickers. Many questions come from people who have never really been around antiques. My initial concern with the program was that the "stars" would come across as con artist taking advantage of people, but this is not the case. People under the age of 30 contact me almost daily wanting to know how to get started in the business because of this show. So in that respect I feel the show has done great things to bring a new demographic to the antique business.

I do feel that the show will lack originality at some point.  How many times can the show go through an old barn before it becomes boring? One episode featured an underground tunnel system that a man had been digging for years. While that was interesting enough, I am unsure if this can continue to draw interest in a show that appears to me to have limited story lines.

American Pickers has been a great draw for the antique business and the History Channel. It seems to have attracted a new demographic and brought enthusiasm to the antique business. If nothing else, much like the Brass Armadillo,  its got everybody talkin......
